I'm continually experimenting with different techniques and mediums and I'm absolutely loving this happy accident, as our good friend Bob would say! A dark figure with drip highlights and a purple grey background.

Baby, she's strange! This cow has some hidden secrets, like her lime green dripped eyes and her rose gold shiny nose. Dark red background, black cow with teal and blue accents. I just love her tilted head and expression in her eyes.

I have been sitting on this idea a while, simply because it was out of the ordinary for me. I wanted to do a mother and calf, but because I've only really done abstract cow portrait paintings, I wasn't sure I could execute it properly. However, I'm absolutely in love with the outcome.

The dreamer, Cassio has quite the romantic color scheme, with over all darker layers. Then in the very forefront, I added the bright yellow splashes, mimicking the stars Miss Cassio spends her time staring at. Instead of looking at the person capturing her portrait, she is simply distracted by what she wants to see, and has no time to pose.

Simone was an exploration of shadows with contrasting colors. I found it interesting to make the pink color the shadow, which your mind automatically assumes should be darker, where the blue green hue represents what the light touches. The dark maroon colors evolved from a combination of crimson and ultramarine hues. The brighter green background served as the perfect contrast to the stronger colors in the forefront.

Taro was a commission for a very dear friend. She reached out to me, said, "Jump out of your comfort zone!" And I did. He was so much fun to paint, and I'm really glad I took on the challenge. She picked the colors, and let me make the rest of the decisions. I loved that I was able to show him losing his winter coat with the lighter brown. I also added texture with the dark and lighter brown in his "jacket". Teal buffalo on red orange sunset background.

Eleanor was a commission for some very dear friends of Jonathan and mine. They chose the colors teal, blue, grey and coral. I think those colors go rather well together, don't you? I also wanted this beauty to have a touch of masculinity so I structured her jaw a little differently, however I left her eyes soft and feminine.

Camille was a new exploration into the color purple and how it reacted with a flourescent red splash. My sister loves Camille and calls her 'the rave cow'. This cow's softer eyes was a new move for me, but I was pleased with the results. The complementary colors of the red and green in the background served as the perfect balance to place Camille facing forward, strong and tall.

Sweet Antoinette is young one. She's just discovering the world and the softer colors show she's starting to develop and grow, while the few darker strokes represent the lessons learned so far. I also want to note that I made her nose a different color than the other cows, primarily to make this difference in age from the rest.

Gallough was a struggle from the beginning. A dark red background... now what the hell do I do? I kept painting, and analyzing, and then POW! Gallough showed his true colors. When at first I thought I was left hanging, this gentleman said, "No way, we're in this together." And he turned out to be the star of the show. Grey was the color that anchored this whole piece cohesively and provided the cool base to put on top of such a warm background.

The lighted guardian in the darkest of nights. Patronus came out of the dark, literally. He was one of my very first completed paintings, after studying the cows anatomy and sketching, and drawing. It was late, and I was tired of drawing. And drawing. And studying. So I said, I need to finish something. I need a lighthouse, the guidance to steer me in the direction I wanted to go.

Sweet Delilah was so much fun and just a joy to paint. Her off set ears and eyes made her attitude playful and relatable. And those eyelashes! Yowza! The contrasting orange and blue colors are so vivid, there's definitely no forgetting this bovine.

Mr. Dorian was an experiment with how a blue undertone in the background would work with then blue strokes in the foreground, without it being overbearing. I balanced that with some yellow and orange strokes, with the strong purple presence in the body of the bull to tie it all together. I think it worked out great, don't you?

Monroe is young and vibrant and she doesn't hold back when it comes to color. Her lime green and blue body creates a turquoise feel on top of a soft purple and orange background, that reminded me of an Oklahoma sunset. The fluorescent pink final strokes bring all the muted colors to life.
